The Gorgon Stone Conservation team are skilled craftsmen, proudly passionate about working in one of the most ancient traditional professions, moulding and mending natural stone, turning it into practical and beautiful works of art.
We’ve honed our experience working on restorations on such iconic buildings as Windsor Castle, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, as well as on big projects abroad in Poland, Ukraine and Turkmenistan.
Based in Frome, Somerset, we are now available for stonemasonry and stonework repairs, restoration, cleaning and stone carving, in Bath, North East Somerset and into west Wiltshire, including Warminster and Westbury.
We specialise in the conservation of historic and listed buildings, being expert in mixing and matching lime renders and lime mortar pointing. We can also repair stonework, ceramics, stucco, mosaic, stone floors and plaster objects, restoring them to their former glory.
Being stonemasons local to the area we are particularly fond of working with the distinctive honey-coloured Bath stone on which the Georgian architecture of the city of Bath is based. Bath Stone is found all over south west England, so we are kept busy with the cleaning and renovation of all sorts of stone buildings, from terraced houses to grand mansions. If your stonework is dulled and discoloured, perhaps even painted over or desecrated with graffiti, we have the latest methods to carefully clean it and bring back the original glow.
We have full qualifications in the field of restoration of stone sculpture and elements of architecture. Combining our sculptural skills and our education as restorers of artworks, we can undertake restoration of historic objects and reconstruction from the referencing of archives. Our work also includes restoration of ceramics, stucco, mosaic, objects made of plaster, use of traditional lime mortars, consolidation and various cleaning techniques. We have worked in the conservation field undertaking restoration works for both individual clients and larger commissions.
We have full qualifications in The Conservation and repair of historic buildings having completed a 6 year course and gaining a Diploma and a Masters degree, we also have advanced Diplomas in Art and Design.
We are fully qualified DOFF and Thermatech operatives with our own machine
We have completed many other short courses in all aspects of the trade including carving, Lime plastering and others
All stone masonry work is carried out by fully qualified stone mason
